Light guide clock part 14

Relay, originally uploaded by Black Heart Industries.

I finally have some time to work on this project. The minutes section will be controlled via the rotary switch. It has 30 positions, each with 4 switches. Row one will be used for the ones indicator: 0-9. Row 2 will be used for the tens indicator: 0-2. Row 3 will also be used for the tens indicator: 3-5. At one complete rotation a leaf switch is engaged which can be used to control a relay. This relay switches from row 2 to row 3. I was a bit confused on how to do this with relays & only one pulse. I found the solution here: http://www.emil.matei.ro/onof2.php
A good read and best diagram I’ve found to explain this operation. Version 1 is the one that I’m going to use. No ‘load’ is necessary as the relays I’ll be using have 3 switches, each has a normally open & normally closed contact. The pulse to trigger the rotary switch will come from a digital clock that comes in a tube like package. The current idea for the hours section is to use a solenoid to control a cam with 12 sections. Each section is to have a micro switch. If I can find a 12 section motorized switch, maybe from a neon sign or telephone system, I may use that instead. Next step is to put together the power supply & test the pulse generator. Also thinking about aesthetic design & how to set time. There’s still much to be decided & many problems to solved.

New holsters up on Etsy

We managed to take some great photos before we ran out of light. The new flask holsters are up on Etsy and one more double holster. There’s a couple of other holsters and the split belts that still need to be photographed. Haley gave me an idea to improve the belts. I will do that tomorrow at Peralta Junction. Come down if you can.

Tricycle Tricycle – part 9

seat post, originally uploaded by Black Heart Industries.

There’s always something wrong with this thing. The seat post finally snapped. Super cheap steel. New seat post and the solution: epoxy a piece of re-bar down the center. Thankx Jay for the bar.

New wallets

New wallets, originally uploaded by Black Heart Industries.

I’ve been crafting like crazy the last couple of days. This is the result, 23 new wallets. They’re made of leather, antique french grain sacks and an upcycled reflective road safety sign. I’ll be cruising around this weekend with my renegade shop. Possibly a craft fair.

Tricycle – part 8

Some maintenance done and a new seat post installed. The renegade store is almost done. Done enough for this weekend. All I have left to do is paint the outside black and add a loop to be able to lock the lid. The drawer will be for sale cuffs and has a second compartment for tools, cards, etc. The top unit is attached with one screw in the center. This allows it to be rotated left or right, 90 degrees. The inside of the lid is for cuffs and earrings. The dividers are removable and are for holding belts and maybe cuffs. The remaining area is for bags, wallets, belt clips, etc. A bungee is used to keep the lid open. I need to keep this thing as lite as possible. I may add loops to the sides of the lid to hang bags, scarves, what have you.

I/O Dock

I/O Dock, originally uploaded by Black Heart Industries.

I have started to make noise again. It’s been a long while. I’ve always wanted a noise tricorder, this is close. The first thing was to get some interesting apps. Then get my sources into the iPad. Years ago I digitized my 4 track tapes to load them into my 2 SP-808s. I loaded 112 sources into the iPad. The third thing was to add professional I/O. That would be the Alesis I/O Dock. It’s bigger then I thought. Sure it’s plastic, but not cheep. The only strange thing is the iPad must be turned on first or you’ll get some strange results. The app on the screen is Curtis by The Strange Agency. It’s a granular synthesizer. I’ll be reviewing some apps in the future.
