Lathe motor mod part 3

Lathe motor mod part 3, originally uploaded by Black Heart Industries.

My crazy idea worked, thank God (note image of God Jr. on paper protecting the flex-shaft hand piece). I needed to cut a notch into the new motor spindle to hold a retaining ring. This was accomplished by mounting a grinding wheel onto a flex-shaft, and mounting that to the new motor via a custom bracket. The motor and flex-shaft where sent spinning in opposite directions. The grinding wheel was gently pushed against the spindle until the desired depth was reached. The picture shows that the retaining ring has been added. Note the screw at the end of the shaft. A hole was added and tapped with the use of a jig. Next the finale cuts to the motor mount, shims, cuts to the case, mod of the back splash, and assembling.
